Microsoft Avalanche
Look out, BitTorrent! Here comes Avalanche!
Word is out that Microsoft researchers, working out of its Cambridge, England facility, are developing a DRM'd P2P torrent-like capability for PCs.
Microsoft's Avalanche, will, supposedly, do BitTorrent one (2?) better, by 1) being faster, and 2) employing DRM for the peace of mind of content owners.
I see this product as not an adjunct, but an integral part of Microsoft's move to enable digital cinema. With such a product, the flexibility of theater owners to request movies from studios becomes something that can be done instantly, eliminating overnight lag.
The incorporation of DRM into this solution augers well for the control studios want over their content.
