Facebook’s developing privacy fiasco
Facebook, as currently developed, is facing a major identity crisis.
Does it keep growing at the rate it is and with the privacy of users in mind, risking being deemed irrelevant by the merciless digerati? Or, should it join in the real-time web treadmill by schneidering users into thinking that it is empowering them with more privacy, lose a substantial number of users, then be deemed irrelevant by the same digerati it is trying to please?
Unfortunately, Facebook took the low road.
The hypocritical statement from to users shows that the company did not come to the decision lightly. Obviously written by lawyers, the documents tried to obfuscate the real intentions of the company while making it seem that the changes were ‘A Good Thing’!
To compound it all, there are rumors that Facebook is trying to develop a system whereby users’ updates are pushed into Twitter.
This is a really bad idea!
If a good number of Facebook users are like me, we have our very public Twitter feeds emptying into our private Facebook timelines, where we also have more private items posted.
Now, Facebook would make that all public?
What are they thinking?
Thankfully, several privacy groups have gotten into the fray, and several suits have been filed.
