New FIA Formula One driver

Lewis Hamilton.

Since Schumi retired last year, I have not followed the FIA Formula One races as closely as I have done in the past.

Until.....

I saw a photograph of Lewis Hamilton.

Dudes, how cool is this:

Lewis Hamilton is a fellow Englishman.

And Black.

Holla'!

So the torch passes to Lewis Hamilton, though I still root for the Ferrari in the constructors points standings.

PDC cancelled?

Mary Jo Foley is reporting that this year's Microsoft Professional Developer's Conference, PDC, formerly slated to be held in November of this year, had been scheleduled for re-scheduling.

Drat!

I was looking forward to chillin' again in my hometown for a week with propeller heads.

No, Thanks, Arif

These guys never stop!

Subject: WAITING FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

Greetings from Dubai,

This letter must come to you as a big surprise, but I believe
it is only a day that people meet and become great friends
and business partners. I am Mr. Arif Shaikh, currently Chief
Credit & Risk Officer with a reputable bank here in U. A. E.
I write you this proposal in good faith, believing that I can
trust you with the information I am about to reveal to you.

I have an urgent and very confidential business proposition
for you. On November 6, 2000, an Iraqi Foreign Oil consultant
/contractor with the CHEVRON PETROLEUM CORPORATION, MR MOHAMMAD
AL NASSER made a (Fixed deposit) for 36 calendar months, valued
at US$17,500,000.00 (Seventeen Million Five hundred Thousand
Dollars only) in my bank and I happen to be his account officer
before I was moved to my present position recently. Upon
maturity in 2003, as his account officer and as well the bank
manger, it is my duty to notify him on the maturity date so I
sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but the
letter was returned undelivered.

After sometime, I tried sending back the letter, but it was
again returned and finally I discovered from his contract
employers, Chevron Petroleum Corporation that Mr. Mohammad Al
Nasser died as a result of torture in the hand of Saddam
Hussein (former Iraqi President) during one of his trips to
his country Iraq, as he was accused of leaking information
to the Americans. On further investigation, I discovered
that Mr. Al Nasser's family wife and two sons died during
the Gulf War in Iraq and was the reason why he did not declare
any next of kin or relation in all his official documents,
including his Bank Deposit paperwork in my Bank and did not
leave any WILL. This sum of US$17,500,000.00 have been
floating and placed under dormant/unserviceable account by my
bank management since no one have heard from the owner since
2003. I wish to let you know that all the investigation I
have made so far, my bank management is not aware of it, I am
the only one that have the information.

With the recent change of government in my country and with
their efforts to support the United Nations in checkmating
terrorism aid in the U. A. E. By end of this year, the
government will pass a new financial control law which will
give the government authority to interrogate account owners
of above $5,000,000.00 to explain the source of the funds,
making sure it is not for terrorism support. If I do not
move this money out of the country immediately, by end of
the year the government will definitely confiscate the money,
because my bank cannot provide the account owner to explain
the source of the money.

I cannot directly transfer out this money without the help
of a foreigner and that is why I am contacting you for an
assistance. As the Account Officer to late Al Nasser, coupled
with my present position and status in the bank as Chief
Credit & Risk Officer , I have the power to influence the
release of the funds to any foreigner that comes up as the
next of kin to the account, with the correct information
concerning the account, which I shall give you. All documents
to enable you claim this fund will be carefully worked out and
there is practically no risk involved, the transaction will be
executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you
from any breach of law, beside U. A. E is porous and anything
goes.

If you accept to work with me, I want you to state how you
wish us to share the funds in percentage, so that both
parties will be satisfied. If you are interested, contact
me as soon as you receive this message so we can go over
the details. Thanking you in advance and may God bless you.
Please, treat with utmost confidentiality. I shall send
you copy of the

deposit certificate issued to Al Nasser when the deposit
was made for your perusal.

I wait your urgent response.

Regards,

Mr. Arif Shaikh

Fay who?

Fay Vincent?

It is one thing for baseball great Hank Aaron to talk about shunning Barry Bonds' breaking of his record.

It is quite another matter for Bud 'Sleeping Ugly" Selig to waffle on the same issue. After all, it sorta happened on his watch.

However, it is way past infra dig for Fay Vincent to flap his gums at this issue.

Fay Vincent?

I know, "Just who the fu*k is Fay Vincent?"

Well he is the flunky who ascended to being the commish of baseball after the untimely death of his master, A Bartlett Giamatti in 1989.

Fay who?

The same asswipe who was unceremoniously dumped from office after a no-confidence vote by owners even before the end of Giamatti's term.

That is the Fay Vincent who suddenly grew balls and found his vocal cords work.

Hey, Vinnie!

Shut the fu*k up and go away.

If Selig didn't need your advice back then, que?

Thank you, and go away already!

Loser!

Another American hero: Charlie Crist

Florida governor Charlie Crist must be commended for cleaning up the mess left by his predecessor in the voting mess.

His signing of a new bill banning touchscreen voting machines for those with a paper trail is especially forthright.

"There is no greater testament to our nation's democracy than the people's ability to choose their leaders," Crist said in a statement after signing the bill. "When Floridians cast ballots in an election at any level -- local, state or federal -- they can leave the polling place knowing that their vote has been counted and recorded and can be verified," he stated.

If you have never lived in a country where a military coup has taken away your right to vote, you cannot understand the benefit of voting.

Props to you, Governor Crist.

3 Symbian trojans discovered in 1 week

Kaspersky Labs discovered 3 insidious, money-hungry trojans infesting the Symbian OS last week.

When downlaoded and, I guess, installed, the trojans automatically send text messages to a premium-rate number in Russia without victim interaction, with each call costing around $7 USD.

Gee, I guess it is not only Windows OSs that have mailware directed at it!

Come to think of it, if the mobile phone market is around 1 billion yearly, isn't it a juicy target for malware writers?

Gmail, Web History, and Feedburner

When is enough, you know, enough?

Gmail, Web History, now a rumored purchase of Feedburner?

How much of your life do you want in the hands of Google?

First there was Gmail. Active search(ing) of your email and conversations. In the initial iteration, there wasn’t any way to delete prior emails/conversations.

How insidious an idea did I think it was?

I fled!

And only use it for bugmenot mail.

Am I the only one who thought Web History or whatever that dreck is called was a ‘bad idea’?

In fact, it was, IMO, the Mother of All Bad Ideas in the history of privacy on the nascent World Wide Web.

Your entire web history is searchable form for Google to monetize, and invariably with PIIs (personally-identifiable information).

Are you kiddin’?

Now comes the rumors that Feedburner is about to be acquired by GOOG.

Errr, NO!

I don’t know about you, but the thoughts of my feedlist, my emails, and my web history in the arms of one company brings shivers along my spine when I think of how precisely I can be targeted

Vote no on this one!

Second Life, Schmecond Life!

Just WTF is this new craze with Second Life?

When formerly-relevant firms (IBM) and Scandinavian countries were setting up islands there, it was ridiculous to the point of being truly sad.

Now comes the news that Microsoft is joining the fray.

Are you kidding?

This is the best way to spend ad dollars?

Redmond, please say it ain’t so!

Can Schilling shut up?

Could one of the Chouds get Curt Schilling to shut the fuck up?

How niiiice of him to try to deflect his painting of his socks* during the World Series in order to get more jack from (unknowing?) advertisers by bringing in Barry Bonds!

What an a-asshole!

What is worse: being accused about steroids or faking a bloody sock* in order to gain sympathy?

Get the fuck out of here, you idiot.

Despite your sanctimonious stance, you were a worse cheat that all steroid jocks put together.

Dipshit!

Dowg, your 15 minutes is like, you know, waaaaaay over!

Now you're Playa' Hatin'?

Eat shit and fade away, Rat-bastard!

EDITED: May 9, 2007, 3.47 pm. There are news reports that Schilling apologized to Bonds on his blog. Well, Curt, fuck you for not having the balls to call and apologize to him personally. I guess you're too busy painting another sock* planning another media event to prolong your new found 15 seconds of fame. Turn the page already!

Blogging for Network World.com

Through an introduction from Robert McLaws, I am in the process of becoming a regular blogger for the Microsoft Subnet on NetworkWorld.com.

While it is another addition to an already full plate, I feel that Microsoft’s story needs to be told with the depth of feeling an opinionated, yet impartial observer, me, can bring to the table.

I shall be blogging on Microsoft products and technologies, and, of course my commentary on them as well.

The blog, John Obeto on Microsoft, can be found here.

Season Over!

My basketball season is over.

And it feels very, very annoying.

To lose to the same team twice in two seasons is just, just.....Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Playing with jakes
If KB24 has not come to that realization now, he never will.

One thing learned from this season, the Lakers do not have consistent players on the team.

Other than the insane KO8E, of course.

This really ranks way below average.

The Supremes sing for Microsoft

In a near unanimous ruling today the US Supreme Court ruled that Microsoft did not owe the (Original) Evil Empire any ducats for foreign infringement of AT&T's patents.

Nice.

Actually, not nice.

AT&T will now take it out on unsuspecting customers by making that utterly clueless department laughingly called 'Customer Service' crank up their total uselessness several notches.

Windows Vista 90-day Vulnerability Report

Just look at the chart below.

Funny though, I keep hearing of the unbreakable nature of the other OSs listed on the chart.

In this report here, Jeff Jones, a director in the security group at Microsoft, lists reported and corrected vulns for six (6) operating systems at the 90-day window.

The results seem surprising, until you see the chart.

Then it blows you away, revealing that there must be some truth to the current belief that the ubiquity of Windows makes it a prime target for malware and breaches and not the other way around.

Jeff is also allowing a download of his full report.

OLPC now at $175

Don't look now, but the Wanker PC is now going to cost 75% more than originally stated.

Yes, not a typo. 75% more.

How did we get here?

When you have Ivory Tower-types making decisions best left to those in the real world, sh*t happens.

Coming up with a totally new paradigm to re-colonize the 3rd World instead of helping them compete in today's world.

They were able to get a few governments, including my ancestral country, Nigeria, and believe it or not, Brazil, to fall for the crap that this was the way.

How, in the real world, and in electronics, do you get a 75% cost overrun?

However, according, to the head monkey for OLPC, costs should drop 25% after the first year.

Is that so, Nick?

From $175.00 to $131?

Or to 75% of $140. Which, at $105, is still $5.00 more than you sold the project to those poor schlubs in those 3rd World countries.

Or is it to $75?

My prior posts here, here, here, and here.
