Microsoft & the Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 Update

Sometimes, Microsoft acts in ways that are so unbelievably stupid, it is hard to believe that nearly a hundred thousand incredibly smart people work for Redmond!

Take the Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 update/upgrade for example.

Microsoft is making this update only available as an in-place patch to that OS.

Why is this important?

The Windows Home Server, however you enhance it with add-ins, is a backup device at heart.

Why would you only deliver a download for a backup device that is only available as a downloadable upgrade?

Why isn’t there a testable download option available?

So, what if I apply the patch, and something goes horribly wrong with my backed-up data?

What redress do I have?

Very annoying, and disappointing!
