The SmallBizWindows Epson WorkForce 610 Review

smallbizvistaaward About a year ago, we reviewed the Epson WorkForce 600 MFC printer and deemed it business ready.

A few months ago, we were given the opportunity to review the latest iteration of that printer, and accepted.

The new Epson WorkForce 610 printer is virtually the same as the old 600, but for better and faster connections to networks.

The WorkForce 610 came to us in a similar box as the older generation. The box contained the MFC printer, power, and Ethernet cables, a user manual, and a software disc. Again, NO USB CABLE!!!

I plugged in the device, and it was recognized immediately by Windows 7, then in RC form. With the generic Windows 7 drivers, I could print and scan right away.

I popped in the driver disk, and went through the startup. Unlike the past model, the WF610 could perform over-the-air wireless configuration!

Suffice it to say that I was greatly pleased at this. It takes an already impressive product to new heights in terms of configurability, which is generally a source of pain to users.

Using the WorkForce 610
For the review, I inserted the WF610 into the network at MedikLabs as deskside system for a mid-level provider. The WF610 performed as ably as the WF610 reviewed here. After a few weeks, I connected it to one of the private Wi-Fi networks there. Wireless installation was just as easy, and I was able to switch the MFC between Wi-Fi networks with ease.

Taking a winner and making it better and cheaper is pretty cool.

The Epson WorkForce 610 is a printer that has been much improved by Epson even during this recession. I am pleased at the performance of the printer, and even more pleased that it worked out-of-the-box with Windows 7, and that the included drivers have had no compatibility issues with Windows 7 or any other operating system the printer has been installed on.

This is a very good printer, and a very good value that has been improved. Resultantly, it is the recipient of the SmallBizWindows Business Ready Award of Excellence.
