Colonel Guion Bluford, Jr., Space Rider

Celebrating Black History Month 2011

Guy Bluford  was ‘Da Man’, at least for me.600px-Bluford_on_Treadmill_-_GPN-2000-001078_CROP

By the time when he first went into space in 1983 aboard , I was about to get into the aerospace industry, and all my hopes and dreams of being an astronaut lay with him.

As the first Western, and ‘Free World’ Black to go into space, Colonel Bluford was celebrated not only by Americans, but to all space enthusiasts of color around the world. He showed that we had indeed, arrived.

I have admired him ever since.

His Wikipedia page is here.
