HP Storage Tech Day: HP VirtualSystem

I was at HP Storage Tech Day in Fort Collins. As is normal with HP, this wasn’t a reveal. No, it was more of an education, a deep dive into select products, meant to inform us, and by proxy, all of you, of certain highlighted products, provide illumination on product lines/groups, and reiterate what is known about the products.

One of the products that was talked about, and one that truly fascinated me, was HP VirtualSystem.

Mike Koponen manages this product for HP Storage, and he was around to tell us more about it.

HP VirtualSystem
HP VirtualSystem was a surprise to me.

I must not have been paying attention, for I had confused it with HP CloudSystem.

In a nutshell, VirtualSystem is a unified compute, networking, storage, and virtualization platform.

While not a new idea – VCE has the vBlock – this is a very intriguing, and interesting product to me, as it allows people vested in all things HP to experience a complete solution built on best-of-breed products: HP Proliant servers, HP Networking, HP 3PAR storage, and Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware virtualization products, all in a thoroughly-vetted package.

For companies trying to create a unified solution, this is just about the best solution I have seen, as it comprises some of the best products available in the market.

This is not a product for the small of wallet.

I am looking forward to learning more about this, and as a result, I will pester Calvin Zito repeatedly until that happens.
