The SmallBizWindows Verbatim InSight Portable Hard Drive Review

In the past year, Verbatim has gone on a tear, solidifying their hold on several market segments, and moving boldly into new ones.

A market segment that Verbatim obviously views as important is the portable hard drive space.

The Verbatim InSight 500 GB portable hard drive is one innovation the company has brought to market recently.

This is a nicely styled, fast, and extremely quiet portable hard drive. It came in a well-padded retail box, with a USB-to-mini-USB cable – the drive has a mini-USB interface, and a quick start guide. Nero BackItUp soft was pre-installed on the hard drive.

Apart from the very sleek styling, the InSight has an always-on LCD display that gives you notification of the drive name and remaining free space on the drive – whether the drive is powered or not.

Backups, backups, Backups!

As our data needs have grown, one of the questions we always ask ourselves as we bring the drives out of storage is if we have enough storage space for the need at hand.

The Verbatim Insight drives aim to resolve that while being useful as portable drives.

The Insight 500 came in just as I was prepping to send the HP z400 Personal Workstation back to HP. I used it to transfer all my data from the z400, and I did so cavalierly, not thinking of the portable drive space being used.

The sleek, piano-black hard drive worked very quietly in the background, and I did not have the need to think about it.

The Verbatim Insight 500 GB portable drive is fast, quiet, and the added LCD panel is a plus. In a business setting, that LCD panel takes it over the top.

We highly recommend it.
