The Data Robotics DroboElite is our favorite device. It is also our favorite device from a company that makes devices that we definitely like.
The 8-bay DroboElite is an easy to implement iSCSI SAN that utilizes Data Robotics’ innovative BeyondRAID technology.
It is a simple-looking box with the most basic of controls and equally simple to use PC Software. However, the simplicity of the software almost doesn’t do justice to another of the Drobo’s strengths: the ability to thin-provision storage.
For a branch office to even midrange SMBs the Drobo is a perfect fit, and it just works. Curiously, the Drobo Dashboard software is also available for OS X.
Finally, a little birdie tells me that a firmware upgrade is in the offing that would allow DroboElite to utilize 3-terabyte hard drives.
